    33If you want to make things work with 'bytes' encoding *as well as* 'latin1' encoding, I think you're just making extra work for yourself, and if you're making the infrastructure more lax about input types, I think you can end up with masking more errors in the end. Note that the problem you're solving here is very limited: it's JUST to help pickles cross the Py2-to-Py3 boundary (the other direction is not supported at all).

     5With the experience we have here now, I think it's pretty clear that with enough work, you can make any pickle decode with latin1 in Py3. You'll just be registering a lot of pickle overrides ...
