sage: f = x*(x+1)
sage: g = x^2 + x
sage: bool(f == g)
True
sage: bool([f] == [g])
True
sage: bool(matrix([f]) == matrix([g]))
False

Also,

sage: matrix([f]) - matrix([g])
[(x + 1)*x - x^2 - x]

but the fix for this might be different.
